It is really an ordeal at the start for most of these people who find it all a bit overwhelming. This feeling quickly passes, though, as they learn the basics very easily and can see real results after just a few class sessions.

PC use among elderly people has shown to be very helpful to them in many aspects. It gets them to be involved in something once more. While using a computer is not the same thing as doing exercise for the body, the use of a computer is a very stimulating method for them to give a workout to their most vital organ – their brain. By keeping intellectually active, many in the older generation discover that they are not lonely any longer and there’s much more they can do with the help of a computer.

Not only are they able to use personal computer programs to assist them to work on some hobbies they may have, but also the WWW can help them to stay in contact with friends who share in the same interest. By staying in touch, they discover more meaning in their golden years.

Some elderly people even are competent enough with their PC use that they can take on part time jobs doing simple data entry for companies. They can also assist in instructing other seniors about the advantages of knowing how to use a PC and the amazing universe of the Internet. Quite a few in the older generation may have only heard about the millions of places on the web out there that contain so much information which they can easily access.

For many seniors it is similar to turning on a light which shows them how much they have been missing all their lives. They begin to be passionate about their search for knowledge with PCs and the WWW. The feeling of isolation is lifted immediately the very first time they send and receive their initial email messages with somebody they know. It doesn’t matter if the person is across the country or just across the street, the thrill is the same. Right away they find out how to feel involved in the world once more and are able to participate in more conversations as their grasp of computers and the WWW increases.

Having the ability to reconnect with old acquaintances that they have not talked to for years is quite a big deal for these elderly people. They also are able to encourage one another to learn more while they experience together many of the same things while learning more about personal computers and the WWW. This is when online PC support is of great benefit. Also, many in the older generation with hearing problems find it much simpler to email someone, or use Skype, Facebook or MySpace to connect, instead of attempting to converse with the person on the phone.

Seniors who have grandchildren discover that the WWW is a tremendous way to remain a part of their grandkids’ lives. By sending emails and talking over everyday events, the family becomes closer and stays closer as well. By using the Internet, many in the older generation have found friends with shared interests. Whether those interests are hobbies or health concerns they have in common, the excitement of the ability to chat with someone and have them chat back to you just about instantly is very exciting for these people in the older generation.
